Advertising Ideas for Digital Designers

Dear Digital Scrapbooking Designers,

From my own experience I can say that designing digital products is lots and lots of fun but there is also the other site. We have not just to deal with piracy, freebies, etc but also with the need to advertise like crazy to get a bit of the attention to our products which they for sure deserve.

I usually spend around 15 hours making a new digital scrapbooking kit and it annoys me to see that there are so many people out there who just hunt for freebies.

As digital scrapbooking is a big business there must be possibilities to earn enough money with creating these products.

When I joined digishoptalk.com I was allowed to meet lots of great designers from this business. Together we collected a lot of advertising ideas.

This little ebook is the result of the thread.

The ebook is published for free and available for anyone – you are allowed to send it to any person who might have interest in it. You are also allowed to add it to your products link to our website where anyone can download it for free.

If a copy of this book is sold please contact me at monja@misticadesigns.com

The only thing I ask for is a link to our site. Please be fair and put this code into your site/blog.

2. Digital Scrap Connection
A new site from Mona, a very nice designer, offering the service for both designers and store owners who can list their sales and new product info there.

3. Digi Scrap Warehouse
Nicole built up another site for digital designers and store owners. There you can advertise for free at the forum or for a small fee at the gallery. You can check this out
here.

4. Building up a Creative Team
Having a creative team is not less work but effective. A CT shows kits in action and if your CT is good people long for your kit. So just choose the best of the best scrappers with lots of experience. Also – let the team show you where they are advertising. Here a little list of sites:

The Shabby Shoppe
http://www.theshabbyshoppe.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=506
Scrapgirls

http://scrapgirls.com.ipbhost.com/index.php?&autocom=gallery
Scrapbookflair
http://www.scrapbookflair.com
Digitals
http://digitalscrapbookpages.com/galleria/
Digitalscrapgirl
http://www.digitalscrapbooking.de/gallery
Digiscrapdepot

http://www.digiscrapdepot.com/gallery/
Digishoptalk
http://www.digishoptalk.com/gallery/

Offering a free sampler for the new kit

From my point of view this is not the best idea, but, sometimes an idea, too. Usually this increases the traffic to your site immediately but I wonder if it increases sales. People hunting for freebies usually don´t buy but hunt – so if you are new in the business this is a good idea. With more experience better give less freebies. If you post a freebie on your blog or website it´s often found by Maria´s Freebie site and that also increases traffic.

6. Have a blog
Having a blog or website is a MUST have for a digital designer. There you can show your newest products, build up newsletter readers, play little games with your customers and – of course – present yourself and get known. When you set up a blog include an email subscription list. It is done very easily with
feed blitz – you can choose there if your subscribers get delivered the news whenever you post something, once a week, twice a week, etc. So you build up a nice customer base. Posting information and tutorials also help.

7.

8. Advertising at DST

Digishoptalk.com has a product gallery and a forum where digital designers can post their products for an annual fee of 10 $.

9. Promote yourself

Have sales, challenges, chats, contests and promote them in the forums mentioned above and at Just Digital Calls

10. …never give up!
It needs a time to get known but it´s worth if digital scrapbooking is your passion! From my experience as a store owner helping beginning designers I can say that it needs up to a half year to get known and sell well.

11. Get in contact
Get to know people, be present in forums and share your layouts (there are also Yahoogroups where you can send them through). Share your knowledge, not your secrets of designing, and get known.

Don´t stop scrapping as it makes you a better designer.

Good luck and lots of fun!!!

This ebook can be sent to your friends and added to your products but can´t be sold!

Not everyone has extra money in their budgets to allow them to buy digital paper and flowers...it shouldn't annoy you that lots of digi-scrappers hunt for freebies, but that most of them don't leave any "thanks" for sharing your creations.

Lauralee hat gesagt…

I must say your annoyance with folks who look for freebies, bothers me to no end.

Let me explain.

1. A person new to digi scrap booking needs items to work with
and learn from.

2. They are learning how to use a graphics program. A Kindn of daunting task when you first start out. So freebies help them learn how to use their program.

3. Why would they spend any money when they can practice with free stuff, develop a style, see the great stuff available, and eventually get more confident to buy finally knowing that they will actually be able to use the fantastic stuff they just bought?

4. How did you learn? Did you use freebies be it for personal or commercial use?

5. They use the free stuff post it in galleries giving credit to the designer and the designer gets traffic. Their friends get interested. They send them your way or somewhere to get freebies, so learn too. Giving away samples is the best advertising you can do.

6. I for one will be shopping where the designer has been generous with free offerings by their design. I'll buy from the generous ones. They helped me during my learning curve and their reward will be my business.

7. Of course there is 2 sides to every story but you seem greedy and ungrateful to me. Not nice at all.
Not everyone can spend money for designers kits and such...but the freebies searcher doesn't just take they advertise for you. Also your freebies will attract buyers.

*8.I am not trying to be mean but you could've shared your thoughts on advertising and such without slamming the folks who are learning. Face it there is a ton of free digi scrap supplies and that is your competition.

9.Price your stuff reasonably, and play nice.

BTW I am a new designer everything I make is free...that is how I am going to get a following. That is how I am getting traffic.

I also have a site that features Designers CU Freebies Only. Everyone I have featured has been happy to be featured. No complaining about me sending traffic to get their freebies. I do this for new designers just learning how to design. They and I will eventually buy designer resources when the confiedence leavel is up and believe me your competition is going to get tougher. I am going to embrace the freebie searcher they are a goldmine.

You can visit me I have a link to the CU Freebie Only Blog on my Blog

Have a Fantastic Day!

I am thinking about getting your ebook but all my traffic is freebie hunters. So putting your blinkie there would only annoy you.

Laura:
If you started some other hobby i.e. nitting, paper scrapping or any other hand craft for that matter would you expect to get what you needed for that for free? Just to try it out?

It makes no sence that it should be freebies offered AT ALL there is nothing that says we are suppose to give out freebies so newbies can try it out. If you own a blooming business, why give your stuff away for free?

I have been a designer for a while and first after I stopped giving out freebies I started to sell more of my products.

I suggest: get a solid ground to stand on within the buying part of the community, then offer small freebies to your customers and give out RAK's to those that comment on your stuff.

That is a great way of getting your name out there.

And always remember that most freebie hunters never buy stuff they only hunt for what's free. And how is that helping you getting a following?

Anita

I do knit and crochet, and yes they give away free patterns in hopes that you buy yarn. Some times I do some times I don't because I have a lot of yarn.
Food manufactures give away food samples, I would say that almost any business that sells products gives away samples.

You have designers right now who give away freebies and for making free scrap kits only.

Don't give freebies, your right no one says you have to. There are a lot of generous folks who do.

And they get traffic. I never said you had togive away. I just explained why freebies are attractive to new digi scrappers etc. You have potential customers coming online everyday. There's a lot of designers who gets the new business?

MisticaDesigns hat gesagt…

laura, i don´t mind that you don´t take my ebook - you should know it´s a present, like a freebie, and nothing else.
no freebie hunter annoys me otherwise i won´t give out any freebie and if you would have checked my store you could see that i have a lot of samples there...

i think you annoy me as you are really impolite - or didn´t you wanna sound this way?

i think in little future i will just stop giving any freebie - i think anita is right: if i wanna try a coke i have to buy a coke and if i don´t have money i won´t get it - it´s easy or?
NOT any business gives you something to try. if you don´t have 2 dollars for a kit - you have to give it away? don´t you respect your work?
if noone would give away freebies - we would start earning money...and be payed for our work. but that would mean noone would give out anything for free - or at least hardly. right now it seems you´ve stamped me as a bad person when i talk from a designers point of view and say: no freebies all the time.

Lauralee hat gesagt…

"I usually spend around 15 hours making a new digital scrapbooking kit and it annoys me to see that there are so many people out there who just hunt for freebies."

"no freebie hunter annoys me otherwise i won´t give out any freebie"
****
Both statements above are direct quotes, from you in your own words.
****
Now for calling me impolite....I just as you said am sharing my point if view. You said you were annoyed...I said I was annoyed. How is that impolite.

You made a strong statement concerning freebie Hunters....Did you really think that you weren't being rude to them and me as I am a designer and a freebie hunter also. Did you really expect everyone to agree with you? Just because I choose to look at freebie hunter differently than you doesn't make me impolite.
I did check your store and I am seeing contradictions in your statements about freebie hunters.
All Good Things!
